I got a much-needed half day off today because I threw myself out of the house...  Mrs. Fly and two of her new friends hosted a neighborhood/PTA ladies luncheon at our house and there were like two dozen women coming over.  I knew I needed to GTFO if I wanted to remain sane.

Some of you guys may be saying "But DFly, you will be the only guy there among 25 women.  Did you turn ghey?"  While the idea of being the lone rooster at a hen party may sound appealing, you have to realize, that these are PTA MOMS.  I stare down at the wrong time, or a split second too long, and I will get the mental equivalent of a Texas lynching.  C'mon fellas - we've all been there.  G and I will become social outcasts - being known as the freakish Asian perverts we are.  No thank you - I want to keep our secret as long as possible.  So I figured that I just save myself the agony and run a few errands (later post - maybe).

Her new friends were telling her that since a lot of women work, inviting 30 people may only result in like 10-15 people showing up.  Turns out, a lot of people really wanted to meet Mrs. Fly - partially because she is new to the PTA and heading up one of the more demanding positions.  No one else wanted to do it, and I told her I would help (since I'm at home anyway - thanks DOJ!).  Also, we're new, there aren't a lot of Asians in the area, we have a nice house with a nice pool, and I think they may have gotten some word of mouth that we are a fun couple (more her than me, ldo).

Oh, and I forgot - we offered a a multi-course meal and Mrs. Fly's berry champagne punch.  In my experience, people don't turn down gourmet food and free alcohol.  So she cooked all day yesterday to make individual chicken pot pies, lasagne cups, gourmet BLTs, her "famous" alfredo pasta salad and one of her salads.  She probably had a bunch of appetizers and her cohosts brought a lot of dessert.  I have to hand it to Mrs. Fly - she really knows how to entertain.  Not just foodwise, but socially.

One of the main reasons we moved down here before the end of the summer is because we were pretty sure in 6-8 weeks, we could get G feeling like he belonged here.  He's had a bunch of great playdates so far, and once you are known as "the Playdate Guy," other kids in the class want to have playdates too.  Vacation hasn't started yet, but we've already made a lot of plans for fun things for him and his friends to do over the summer.  At the end of the day, it's mostly about him.

Did we mention how much we love Texas?  And I think I finally found a good beef place!  (later post)
